The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is a statutory body created in terms of the National Film and Video Foundation Act No 73 of 1997 (NFVF Act). The NFVF Act mandates the NFVF to develop and promote the South African film and video industry. In pursuance of this mandate the NFVF is introducing an annual programme to provide opportunities to enable female filmmakers to develop, write, direct and produce ten one hour films.

BID NUMBER: RFT07/2012: APPOINTMENT OF A SERVICE PROVIDER FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIGITAL SCREEN FACILITIES IN UNDERSERVICED AREAS.

The National Film and Video Foundatipn (NFVF) is a public entity that prescribes to the principles of transpareny, fairness and equitable as espoused sections 32 and 33 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act 108 of 1996.

The National Film and Video Foundation invites interested parties to submit written comments on the proposed Definition of a South African Film. The objective of the Definition of a South African Film is to set criteria for the assessment of whether a film is South African.

Members of the fi lm and video community and the general public are hereby invited to nominate members for Council of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), as per requirement of the National Film and Video Foundation Act, 1997 (Act 73 of 1997). The Council will consist of no fewer than nine and no more than fourteen members.

02 April 2013: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) in partnership with the Bojanala District Municipality and North West Department of Sports, Arts and Culture held yet another successful film week in Bojanala, Rustenburg from the 22nd to 25th of March 2013.

20 March 2013: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) in partnership with the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality and the North West Department of Sports, Arts and Culture will host the 2nd Annual Bojanala Film Week from the 22nd to the 25th of March 2013 in Bojanala, Rustenburg.

11 February 2013: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) will on the 14th of February embark on a trip to Los Angeles to represent South African film at the 21st Annual Pan African Film Festival (PAFF). Dedicated to the promotion of cultural and racial tolerance, and understanding through the exhibition of film, art and creative expression, PAFF commenced on the 7th of February and will end on the 18th of February 2013.

14 December 2012: The National Film & Video Foundation is offering FREE part-time training opportunities to writers who wish to be trained as professional screenwriters as well as develop their feature film concepts.

04 December 2012: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) has commissioned a baseline study on the economic impact of the film industry in South Africa. The study, conducted by Deloitte & Touche, is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2013.

12 November 2012: South Africa is taking 22 local documentary projects to the 25th International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA), 13 of these have been supported by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF). In addition, two NFVF supported projects, Devil’s Lair and The Dream of Shahrazad have also been invited to pitch at the festival.

12 October 2012: The Macufe NFVF Film Festival took place from Tuesday the 09th and will end on Saturday 13th of October. The film week is a collaboration between the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and Mangaung African Cultural Festival.

The France – South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013 is a multifaceted bilateral collaboration between France and South Africa, concluded last year by the heads of states of France and South Africa.

28 September 2012: The South African Academy Award Selection Committee and the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) announce the selection of "Little One" for consideration as South Africa’s official entry into the Best Foreign Film category for the 85th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars). If approved by the Oscars Academy Award Selection Committee, the film will represent South Africa as the nominee for the 85th Oscars to be held in 2013.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) has extended the closing date for the call for local production companies to submit their entries for the 7th annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). The closing date has been extended to Thursday the 27th of September 2012 at 16h00 with a penalty fee of R350.00 per entry. The penalty fee will be payable for all the entries that will be received after the initial closing date which was the 20th of September 2012.

The Annual Academy Awards has opened the call for entry for Best Foreign Language Film Award. South African filmmakers are invited to submit their feature films for consideration for the 85th Annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Awards for Best Foreign Language Film Category. – Deadline for submissions is 10th of September 2012 16h00.

15 August 2012: The National Film and Video Foundation will now issue quarterly calls for applications for funding in the areas of training, marketing and distribution support, script development and production financing. These calls will be aligned to the quarterly meetings of council and are designed to provide the industry with clear deadlines for submissions each quarter.

13 July 2012: Durban is set to come under the spotlight as all eyes of the film world will be on the city for the 33rd Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) which is taking place from the 19th to the 29th of July 2012. DIFF, the country’s biggest and longest running film festival, is supported by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

20 June 2012: The 14th Encounters International Documentary Festival is currently underway in Cape Town and Johannesburg. The Africa's most prestigious documentary festival, which is supported by the National Film and Video Foundation as its primary sponsor, commenced on the 7th of June 2012 and will run until the 24th of June 2012.

07 June 2012: The National Film and Video Foundation will from 28th of June until 06th July conduct the final round of industry consultations. The objective of the sessions is to have a final round of input in order for the Foundation to finalise the criteria.

23 May 2012: The National Film and Video Foundation on Monday 21st of May hosted a co-production forum at the SA Pavilion. This was the first time the country held this event at the Cannes Festival.

17 May 2012: The 65th Cannes International Film festival opened last night with the premiere of Wes Anderson’s coming-of-age love story ‘Moonrise Kingdom’. The festival is taking place in Cannes, France until 27th of May 2012.

10 May 2012: The Documentary Filmmakers Association (DFA) delegation to Hot Docs 2012 has just returned from Toronto and delegates have headed home to Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Durban. The 16-strong delegation was the biggest at Hot Docs, and stood out at the festival.

23 April 2012: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) congratulates all South African winners at the 2012 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). The awards took place last night, Sunday 22nd of April in Nigeria, Lagos.

11 March 2012: Winners of the Fiction categories of the 6th annual South African Film and Television Awards were announced at a prestigious ceremony held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand on Saturday the 10th of March 2012.

05 March 2012: It is with great disappointment that the NFVF and SAFTAs committee learn of ETV’s withdrawal from the South African Film and Television Awards.

22 February 2012: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) congratulates Ross Van Leeve for being shortlisted in Kevin Spacey Jameson’s First Short Film Competition. Ross is an NFVF bursary recipient and has completed the Sediba Spark training programme. A film director and scriptwriter, he stands the once in a lifetime chance to have his script turned into a short film, starring the one and only Kevin Spacey.

16 February 2012: The nominees for the 6th annual South African Film & Television Awards were announced on Thursday 16th of February 2012 at a glittering event held at The Venue in Melrose Arch, North of Johannesburg. Isidingo's Jack Devnarain & Thuli Thabethe served as MC's for the night, while joint Chairpersons Jackie Motsepe & Feizel Mamdoo announced the nominees.

15 December 2011: The National Film and Video Foundation is happy to announce that at its meeting on the 7th of December 2011 the council of the NFVF approved the awarding of slate funds to three deserving production companies, each with unique propositions which attracted the highest scores from the evaluation panel convened to assess them.

07 November 2011: Last week the people of Bojanala district showed their eagerness to pursue careers in filmmaking and that they are passionate about the film industry. This was evident during the Bojanala Film Week that took place between the 26th and 29th of October 2011 at the Bafokeng Plaza in Rustenburg.

27 October 2011: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is proud to announce that Mukunda Michael Dewil’s riveting thriller Retribution was the opening film of the Bojanala Film Week.

13 October 2011: The National Film and Video Foundation have published its 2nd Trimester Box Office report for the review period from 29th of April until 31st of August 2011.

Call for applications for approval of co-production status in terms of SA and French Republic/ France concerning co-productions of films.

The South African Academy Award Selection Committee and the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) announce the selection of Life, Above All for consideration as South Africa’s official entry into the Best Foreign Film category for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards (Oscars). If approved by the Oscars Academy Award Selection Committee, it will represent South Africa as the nominee for Oscars 2011.

In 2007, the National Film and Video Foundation sent out a call to up and coming young filmmakers to submit short film scripts in any genre but with two stipulations - the films had either to be in an indigenous language and or be written and directed by women.

15 July 2010: The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAS) committee have announced that the period to submit projects for the SAFTAS 2011 has been extended. The new closing date for submission is Friday 13th of August 2010 at 16h00.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), would like to remind South African productions to submit their entries for SAFTAS 2011. The closing date for submission is Friday the 16th of July 2010 at 16h00. The Feature Film and Life Time Achievement category entries will close on the 31st of December 2010.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), official organizers of the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAS) calls for South African productions to submit their entries for SAFTAS 2011. The 2011 entries open on Monday the 17th of May 2010 and will close on Friday the 16th of July 2010 at 16h00. The Feature Film and Life Time Achievement category entries will close on the 31st of December 2010.

In 2009, the NFVF launched the Sediba Advanced International Financing Programme aimed at experienced producers in television drama & feature film products.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) takes pleasure in announcing winners of the essay writing competition that took place on February 11 2010, when different schools were treated with a trip to the cinema to view SKIN.

The National Film and Video Foundation took four hundred and twelve (412) grade 12 learners to view SKIN on Thursday 11 February 2010, as part its ‘taking cinema to the people’ initiative. Disadvantaged schools in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape were treated to an all expense paid trip to the cinema, where the NFVF staff members were at hand to welcome the learners and interact with them.

Skin, a true-life story about South Africa's Sandra Laing, accumulated R194.151 at the box office during it’s first weekend of release (22 – 24 January) making it the number one film on he Cinema Nouveau circuit. The figure was recorded after the film was released only in selected cinemas (eleven prints) around the country. As of 28th January,Thursday night, Skin had registered R288,000.

The nominees for the South African Film and Television Awards were announced today at an event held at Johannesburg’s Atlas Studios. Both members of the industry and the local media attended the event.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) will host the 3rd Film Indaba on 26 and 27 November 2009. Indaba 2009 presents an opportunity for the NFVF to present to the industry, the NFVF Vision 2022, which was developed by the NFVF Council and Executive Management.

The 4th South African Film and Television Awards judging phase will commence on Tuesday 01 September 2009.
