UK distributor Kaleidoscope Entertainment has acquired the UK rights to distribute the upcoming films Skeem and Greener Grass from Light & Dark Films, South Africa.
Skeem is the sophomore film of award winning director Tim Greene (A Boy Called Twist). The film is an irreverent comedy about money, friendship and greed, while Greener Grass is a stylish, highly charged, action packed crime caper that moves from urban jungles to real jungles.
Skeem synopsis:Halfway home from a drug-sale in Jo’burg, two young guys run into trouble when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Forced to spend the night at a creepy old holiday resort their problems escalate when, unpacking the car, their box of cash splits open, spilling a million bucks in eye-catching bundles all over the driveway. They scoop it up, head inside and slam the door, but the damage is done. Greedy eyes have spotted the cash, and in five neighbouring chalets, greedy people begin to skeem…
Greener Grass synopsis:After 2 years of changing adult incontinent diapers, Steve’s had enough of England and inspiration from Nelson Mandela draws him home where his friends are bitter, broke and funny as hell. Layla Jay, his long time crush and his best friend’s girl convinces him that there is a fool proof way of making all their dreams come true, because while the grass may be greener on the other side, it truly is cheaper at home!
Zaheer Goodman-Bhyat, President of Light & Dark films said: "I am thrilled that we could pre-sell our next two films in the current environment. It speaks to the high quality of the material we have been developing. We could not be happier to partner with Kaleidoscope who have shown themselves to be very adept at understanding the marketplace and caring for a film by getting it out as widely as possible."
Spencer Pollard, CEO of Kaleidoscope adds: "We were hugely excited by the scripts and plans Light & Dark have for the films. South Africa is really becoming a hot bed of genre film making and we believe these acquisitions are just the start in an important part of our growing catalogue of theatrical films planned for release in 2011 and the beginning of an important long term relationship."
Both films are co-financed by Spier Films.
