Akin Omotoso is a new breed of young talented black actors and directors who are making inroads into small, selective and restrictive film industry. Only 30 years old, Akin made his acting debut on stage at the University of Cape Town’s Drama School. He has appeared in productions such as Isidingo on SABC 3, Big Oakes on e-tv and others.

His acting and directing achievements include prestigious awards like the Fleur du Cap, the NTVA Silver Award and a nomination for an Avanti "Best Film Award". Akin played the part of Khaya Motene on SABC 1’s hit show Generations for four years. From 1997 through to 1999 he directed three short films The Kiss Of Milk, The Nightwalkers and The Caretaker. In 2000 he wrote, directed and produced his debut feature film God Is African. In 2003 he started T.O.M. with whom he has produced the multi award winning feature film Gums & Noses, Nomzamo the highest rated sitcom in the history of South African television. as well as directing Rifle Road a short film shown at Cannes 2005 and Gathering the Scattered Cousins a short documentary which was an official selection at the Toronto Film Festival 2006. More recently he has been directing the hit SABC 1 series A Place Called Home. In 2006, Akin was award the Standard Bank Young Artist of the year award. Akin is currently pursuing various film and television projects.
