Hear Me Move Joins SA Freedom Tour

Hear me Move, SA’s first dance feature film is excited to be part of South Africa at 20: The Freedom Tour – a truly ground breaking season of South African films that will screen in cinemas across the UK from October 2014 to February 2015.

The Freedom Tour programme features 11 titles and will showcase brand new work alongside re-mastered classics by a diverse group of hugely talented South African filmmakers, some of whom will be visiting the UK to introduce their own films and to host post-screening discussions.

Hear Me Move has been chosen to be featured in the young South African voices category and director Scottness L Smith, and choreographer Paul Modjadji will be visiting the UK to introduce their film and take part in talks, workshops and discussions.

Hear Me Move director Scottness Smith comments: “Through the movie we wanted to give a platform to showcase our indigenous urban dances. The world has seen hip-hop. It has seen contemporary. It has seen b-boying, but it hasn’t seen Pantsula and Sbujwa immortalised on the silver screen.”

“Dance has been part of almost every South Africans life no matter the race. Hear me Move depicts South Africa as a country that is full of potential: potential to move on from the past and embrace the future. That’s one of the key messages of the film: listen to the past, but don’t let that stop you from speaking to the future.”

The film explores the story of a young man, who goes on a life journey of self-discovery through dance and music.
