Margaret Goldsmid

Margaret is an experienced TV-drama producer, script editor, writer and screenwriting lecturer. She is a former head of Afrikaans Drama at the SABC.  She left the SABC in 1997 to pursue her passion for filmmaking in a more hands-on manner by joining husband Peter as producer in his production company, Southern Exposure. Together they produced several TV-series for SABC 1 & 2, amongst them four seasons of  Justice for All and the mini-series Riemvasmaak. These series were collectively nominated for 52 industry awards and won 14 of them. She taught the  NFVF Sediba Masters Screenwriting Course between 2008 and 2014 and wrote the Sediba the Sediba Advanced Screenwriting Learner and Facilitator Guides for the NFVF in 2017.  Margaret has is an accredited Script Editor with the NFVF and KZNFC.  She has script edited more than 16 feature films which include Ian Gabriel’s Four Corners, Thandi Brewer’s Chemo Club and Zola Maseko’s The Whale Caller. In 2013/14  she co-wrote with Kaye Anne Williams the feature film, Krotoa, for Paw Paw Films; the film garnered 9 international awards, amongst the best film at the Haarlem Film Festival in New York.   She has written and storylined on several TV series, including Zbondiwe 2 & 3, Ring of Lies, Sara se Geheim and A Covert Affair.  She was nominated as Best TV-writer for an episode of Covert Affair for the WGSA 2016 Muse Awards. She wrote the chapter on how to write a screenplay in “Die Afrkaanse Skryfgids” edited by Riana Scheepers and Leti Kleyn and published by Penguin in July 2012. Since 2015 she has been the Screenwriting Lecturer in the Post Gradual Department at AFDA in Cape Town.
