THE NATIONAL FILM AND VIDEO FOUNDATION INVITES DIRECTORS TO APPLY FOR THE YOUTH FILMMAKER PROJECT: CALLOUT 2019/2020
The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) an agency of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture that was created to ensure the equitable growth of South Africa's film and video industry. The NFVF, in collaboration with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to announce that the call for Directors to submit proposals for the Youth Filmmaker Project is open.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The concept for the Youth Filmmaker Project is to provide Ten aspirant young filmmakers, particularly those from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, with an opportunity to make a 24-minute film in collaboration with other filmmakers. The successful directors will receive a predetermined script around the theme of love and be paired with qualified mentors and a production team who will assist in facilitating the project, over a 10-week period.
The ten films will be produced by Triangle Post and Animation Studios who will ensure that each participant has a completed film that will form part of their portfolio in the future.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
There are a series of intensive workshops facilitated by qualified mentors in the industry who will equip candidates with the right tools in making the short films a success. The director’s workshop will take place over a one-week period. Each director will work with a professional production crew and will work closely with the writer. All workshops and shoots will take place in and around Gauteng.
Successful candidates must be able to set aside 3 months in order to fully partake in the programme.

Please make sure that you attach all required documents because any missing documents will lead to automatic disqualification. All shortlisted candidates will be given a free pitching session by our mentor director before going for the actual pitch. No stipends will be paid to directors. Directors outside Johannesburg will have to find their own accommodation and transport if chosen.
