It's just like shearing sheep, right?
Jimmy, a conservative corn farmer is elated when his rich gay uncle offers him a way to save his farm from bankruptcy - only to find out he’ll have to bare his midriff and master the up-do.
Like Jimmy, life on their isolated North West corn farm is wholesome and uncomplicated. People save water by only bathing once a week. Children climb trees, jump in cow dung and race tractors. Life is simple and people are whistle happy.
Jimmy Bester (28) is a rugged seventh generation corn farmer who can give you a 5-day weather forecast by simply sniffing the wind. He’s also never been past the Migdol corn silos, and he never intends to. He has everything he needs right here on the farm.
But, when Jimmy’s dad suddenly dies from a freak wall-mounted antler accident two Jo’burg lowlifes turn up at his funeral informing him that his father owed them a lot of money. Now he’s dead, the debt passes to Jimmy. He’s got 3 months or else they’ll hurt his family.
Jimmy was oblivious to the fact that the unrelenting drought had left them bankrupt. Desperate to hang on to the farm, his dad had taken out a ‘short term loan’ from some shady characters.
Whilst packing away his father’s things, Jimmy discovers he has a rich estranged Uncle, who is the man behind the Fredrique’s hairdressing empire in Cape Town.
With no other option Jimmy has to travel to Cape Town to see his gay uncle Fredrique, who has a bitter grudge against Jimmy’s father, which he now transfers to Jimmy. Fred tells him that his family ostracised him and that none of them have bothered to contact him until now – when they need money. Uncle Fredrique tells Jimmy he can only have the money if he wins the Fredrique’s Next Hair Guru reality TV show. Naturally, being the manly man that he is, Jimmy has never set foot in a hair salon. But if he wants to save the farm and his family he’ll have to do the unimaginable - bare his midriff and master the up-do.
