My Yeoville (2004)My Yeoville (2004)

Yeoville, one of Johannesburg’s oldest suburbs and long-time home to Orthodox and Hasidic Jews, became a non-racial bastion of anti-apartheid struggles in the decade before South Africa’s first election. It was once celebrated as a model of non-racial co-existence attracting musicians, artists and the new political elite. Now the place is dying, but some still struggle to resurrect it. This is a personal portrait of a decaying symbol of the free South Africa told by a young, black, filmmaker who lives with his family in Yeoville.
