The National Film and Video Foundation Call for Female Producers to Submit the Applications to Attend the Berlinale Co-Production Market 2025

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) invites emerging female producers to submit applications for an opportunity to attend and participate at the Berlinale Co-Production Market 2025, taking place in Berlin, Germany, from 15 to 25 February 2025.

The Berlinale Co-Production Market is a key event during the Berlin International Film Festival, providing a platform for emerging filmmakers and industry professionals to engage in international co-productions. It serves as a meeting point for producers, financiers, distributors, and other key players from the global film industry. The market presents a valuable opportunity to discover co-production partners, gain insights into international markets, and attend exclusive masterclasses and networking events.

Brief:

The NFVF is offering 4 emerging South African female producers the chance to attend the Visitors’ Programme at the Berlinale Co-Production Market 2025. This program is aimed at emerging producers with no prior international co-production experience. The opportunity will provide crucial market exposure and training, helping to foster international partnerships and expand co-production opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be female South African citizens or permanent residents.
  • Applicants must have produced only one feature film and at least one short film. (The applicant must be the main producer who was also responsible for the financing of that film).
  • The film needs to have been released in theatre (cinema) broadcast on TV or a SVOD platform with considerable reach.
  • Applicants must have no prior international co-production experience.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated interest in expanding their networks in the international film industry.
  • If you have travelled with NFVF funding this current year, please note that you will not qualify for this opportunity.

Required Documents:

  1. A one-page letter of motivation outlining why you should be selected to attend the Berlinale Co-Production Market 2025 and how this opportunity will benefit your career.
  2. A one-page pitch or description of a current or upcoming film project, including the stage of development (e.g., script, pre-production, in-production) and what your specific needs are in terms of co-production support (e.g., financing, distribution, partners).
  3. A CV detailing relevant film production experience.
  4. A certified copy of your South African ID or passport (valid for at least 6 months after the festival).

Funding:

The NFVF will cover the costs of flights, accommodation, daily allowances, and festival accreditation for the selected producers.

Submission Deadline:

Applications must be submitted by 22 November 2024, 17:00 pm. Late submissions will not be considered.
